After leading the team in digs during last weekend's road trip to Idaho State and Weber State, junior libero Emily Deleissegues (Aromas, Calif.) has been named the Division I Independent Defensive Player of the Week, announced Monday by the award coordinators.

Averaging 5.5 digs per set in the two matches, Deleissegues led all players with 18 digs in Friday afternoon's match at Idaho State, followed by a 15-dig performance at Weber State Saturday evening. Her performance in the back helped Seattle University stay in both matches during the road trip, as SeattleU actually earned more digs than Weber State in Saturday's contest.

For the season, Deleissegues leads the Redhawks with 315 defensive digs, third-most among all players from the six Division I independent schools. She is averaging 3.94 digs per set, also third in the independent statistical rankings. Deleissegues has collected 836 career digs, presently in eighth place on the SeattleU all-time digs list and just 38 digs behind sixth place.

The Division I Independent Player and Defensive Player of the Week are selected from nominations made by the sports information directors of the six schools playing Division I volleyball as independents: Bryant University, Cal State Bakersfield, North Carolina Central, Providence College, Savannah State, and Seattle University. Deleissegues is the second Seattle University player to earn a weekly honor, as Cristin Richards was named Player of the Week on Oct. 5.

Seattle University (5-18) takes a week off from competition before traveling to yet another Big Sky school, as Montana State will serve as the opposition Monday, Oct. 26, beginning at 7 p.m. local time. The Redhawks begin November with a trip to California before returning home for their final match of the season against Saint Martin's Tuesday, Nov. 10, starting at 7 p.m. at the Connolly Center.
