Cristin Richards (Olympia, Wash.) led Seattle University with nine kills, two service aces, and eight total blocks. Kaytlyn Dill (Bothell, Wash.) finished with seven kills and six digs, and setter Jamie Mellies (Henderson, Nev.) dished out 22 assists along with five digs. Defensively, Kelly Biette (Brighton, Colo.) collected seven block assists at the net, and Emily Deleissegues (Aromas, Calif.) led all players with 18 defensive digs.
Idaho State (9-10) scored the first five points of the match, with Emily Waldron earning two kills, including the 1,000th kill of her career. An ace from Richards and back-to-back kills by Dill allowed SeattleU to pull into a 10-10 tie, but Idaho State scored the next four points to take the lead for good. Back-to-back blocks by Richards and Biette kept the Redhawks close, but the Bengals closed out the first set on consecutive kills by Jaclyn Hone and Waldron.
Seattle University scored the first two points of the second set, but Idaho State scored five of the next six points to take the lead. Once again, the set was tied at 10-10 when Sarah Carson and Haylee Thompson hit back-to-back kills to give the Bengals the lead. Biette was part of consecutive blocks that brought SeattleU within two at 16-14, but the home team would finish off the set with a 9-3 run, including three kills by Britta Bartschi-Rhodehouse.
In the third set, Idaho State broke an 8-8 tie with kills from Bartschi-Rhodehouse and Waldron. SeattleU came within one point twice, but Breanne Van Every earned a kill and a block assist to extend the Bengals' advantage. Idaho State slowly added to its lead throughout the rest of the set, closing out the match with a block by Van Every and Bartschi-Rhodehouse.
Waldron led all players with 14 kills, while Hone notched a double-double with ten kills and ten digs, along with two service aces. Karissa Legaux ran a solid offense, collecting 37 assists, and Paige Palmer led the team in the back with 13 defensive digs.
Seattle University (5-17) heads to Ogden, Utah, to face Weber State Saturday, Oct. 17, beginning at 7 p.m. The Redhawks will have four more road matches before playing their home and season finale Tuesday, Nov. 10, against Saint Martin's at the Connolly Center starting at 7 p.m.
