Seattle University picked up one event victory, as Chris Lynch (Melbourne, Australia), James Gilmore (Eugene, Ore.), and James White (El Cajon, Calif.) set a new meet record in the 300 breaststroke relay, winning that event in 3:01.58. That continued the solid start for SeattleU, as the trio of Eric Pedack (Snohomish, Wash.), Jordan Anderson (Newberg, Ore.), and Garrett Nugent (Valencia, Calif.) finished second in the 300 butterfly relay in 2:36.12, followed by a second place finish from Keith Andrews (Hillsboro, Ore.), Joe Wertz (Richland, Wash.), and Pedack in the 300 backstroke relay with a time of 2:43.04.
The team earned four other second-place finishes Friday, starting with the 400 medley relay team of Wertz, Lynch, Pedack, and Chris Fulton (Snohomish, Wash.), which posted a time of 3:35.64. The 200 freestyle relay quartet of Anderson, Tyler Carriker (Everett, Wash.), Jeff Tibbals (Moscow, Idaho), and Fulton also finished in second place in 1:26.60, beating the third-place team from Grand Canyon University by just 9/100ths of a second.
In the 400 individual medley relay, Pedack, Gilmore, Andrews, and Wertz finished in second place with a time of 3:43.79. Finishing off the meet, Fulton, Tibbals, Nugent, and Anderson earned a second place finish in the 400 freestyle relay in 3:11.19, a lower time than the meet record heading into the event.
The quartet of Nugent, Tibbals, Andrew Martinez (Concord, Calif.), and Fulton finished third in the 800 freestyle relay with a time of 7:17.91. Carriker, Tibbals, Kalani Kaula (Albuquerque, N.M.), and Martinez combined for a third-place finish in the 500 freestyle relay in 4:20.86, while Wertz, Martinez, and White finished third in the 1500 freestyle relay with a time of 14:49.98.
The results of Saturday's meet were still being verified and will be posted as soon as they become available.
The Seattle University swim teams will head to northern California over Halloween weekend, facing Pacific Friday, Oct. 30, beginning at 6:30 p.m., followed by a dual meet against UC Davis Saturday, Oct. 31, starting at 11 a.m.
