Cristin Richards (Olympia, Wash.) earned a season-high 21 kills while committing only two attack errors for a hitting percentage of .413, plus she collected five digs and four total blocks, including two solo rejections. Kaytlyn Dill (Bothell, Wash.) contributed 11 kills, eight digs, and two block assists, while Karina Miastkowska (Northbrook, Ill.) added a season-high seven kills to the effort.
The first set went back-and-forth before Seattle University scored four unanswered points midway through the set for a 19-14 lead. UNLV came back to take the lead at 23-22, but SeattleU rallied to win the set on consecutive kills by Kelly Biette (Brighton, Colo.) and a kill by Richards on set point.
UNLV (4-10) dominated the next two sets, hitting .473 as a team while holding SeattleU to nine kills in both the second and third sets. Runs of 8-0 and 6-0 allowed the Rebels to win the second set and tie the match at one set apiece, and after falling behind 5-2 in the third set, UNLV outscored the Redhawks 23-8 to earn the set victory and take the lead in the match.
In the fourth set, SeattleU went on a 4-0 run to take a 10-7 lead, but UNLV answered with three straight points to pull into a 10-10 tie. The two teams continued to pass the lead back and forth throughout the rest of the set. With the score tied at 23-23, Erin Greenwood set up UNLV with match point three times with three kills, and the Rebels finally converted on the third chance thanks to a kill by Cursty Jackson.
Playing in front of family and friends, Jamie Mellies (Henderson, Nev.) notched 38 assists along with three kills and ten digs. Defensively, Raissa Licano-Sanchez (Grandview, Wash.) earned three total blocks, while Emily Deleissegues (Aromas, Calif.) collected 15 defensive digs in the back.
Jackson and Greenwood each finished with 23 kills to lead the Rebels, with Jackson earning a .500 hitting percentage and a match-high five blocks and Greenwood making only two attack errors for a .477 hitting percentage along with two service aces. Sara Nehf contributed 12 kills, a .409 hitting percentage, and nine digs, and Amanda Alles running the offense with 48 assists along with three kills and six digs.
Samantha Richard also spent time as the setter, finishing with 13 assists to go along with two service aces and eight digs. Nile Te'o led all players with 18 digs, and Kelsey Keeler contributed ten digs, four kills, two aces, and two block assists.
Seattle University (5-16) will head back home to prepare for the next leg of this current seven-match road trip, as the team will face Idaho State on Friday, Oct. 16, in a contest set to start at 3 p.m. local time, followed by a trip to Weber State next Saturday, Oct. 17, for a 7 p.m. match.
