Last Wednesday at the University of Portland, Richards led Seattle University with 12 kills, plus she collected nine digs and two block assists. In the third set, Richards earned three kills and a block assist as SeattleU outscored Portland, 7-1, to open an 18-12 advantage and help the Redhawks extend the match into the fourth set.
The next night, Richards notched a double-double with 15 kills and 12 digs, plus she earned two service aces and a block assist in SeattleU's four-set home win over Trinity Western. She started the match strong, posting three kills as the Redhawks scored eight of the first ten points of the night. Richards also ended the match with a kill as Seattle University earned its fifth victory of the season.
For the season, Richards leads the team with 225 kills and 15 service aces. She is fourth among players from independent schools in kills and third in kills per set (3.36). With 147 defensive digs, she is also tied for tenth in digs and in tenth place in digs per set (2.19). Richards has posted double digits in kills in 14 matches this season, including the last seven in a row.
Seattle University (5-14) hosts Portland State this Wednesday, Oct. 7, at the Connolly Center North Court beginning at 7 p.m. The Redhawks then head out on a seven-match road swing, beginning Saturday, Oct. 10, at UNLV starting at 1 p.m.
