Led by a top ten performance by freshman Sam Bell (Park City, Utah), the Seattle University men's golf team finished in eighth place at the Saint Martin's Invitational held Friday and Saturday at The Golf Club at Hawks Prairie.

Bell shot 71 in the first round to place in a tie for second place at the end of the day, and he followed that with a 75 in Saturday's round for a two-day total of 146 (+2), good enough for a tie for sixth place. Alec Pakzad (Bellevue, Wash.) also posted a solid first-round score of even-par 72, coming back with a 77 in the second round to finish in a tie for 20th place at 149 (+5).

Justin Goar (Montesano, Wash.) led the Seattle University "B" team that was entered, shooting 76 and 74 in the two rounds for a cumulative score of 150 (+6) to finish in a tie for 29th place. On the "A" team, Kris Jackson (Snohomish, Wash.) posted scores of 79 and 76 to finish the tournament in a tie for 53rd place at 155 (+11), and Rob Seibly (Spokane, Wash.) also improved off an opening-round 79, shooting 77 on Saturday for a two-day total of 156 (+12) and a tie for 56th place.

Preston Matchett (Billings, Mont.) was consistent over the weekend, shooting 79 in each round to finish in a tie for 64th place at 158 (+14). Travis Michael (Phoenix, Ariz.) shot rounds of 80 and 85 for a cumulative score of 165 (+21) and an 87th-place finish, Kevin Ormiston (Snoqualmie, Wash.) finished in 95th place after scores of 83 and 86 for a two-day total of 169 (+25), and Nowell Ancheta (Lancaster, Calif.) earned a 97th-place finish with rounds of 84 and 87 for a cumulative score of 171 (+27).

The SeattleU "A" squad posted scores of 301 and 305 for a two-day total of 606. Saint Martin's came from behind to win the team tournament, with Zach Dietz pacing the Saints by shooting four-under-par 140 to win the individual title. The Redhawk "B" squad finished in 18th place after rounds of 318 and 324 for a cumulative score of 642.

The Seattle University men's golf team will next play in the University of Victoria tournament on Oct. 19-20 before heading across the Pacific Ocean for the Kaua'i College Invitational in Lihue, Kaua'i on Oct. 26-28.
