The Seattle University volleyball team could not maintain the momentum from the previous weekend's accomplishments, as 23rd-ranked San Diego showed off its offensive power in a 3-0 victory (25-15, 25-14, 25-15) Tuesday night at the Jenny Craig Pavilion.

Kaytlyn Dill (Bothell, Wash.) led SeattleU with nine kills and also earned six digs, while Cristin Richards (Olympia, Wash.) finished with six kills, a service ace, and 10 digs. Jamie Mellies (Henderson, Nev.) finished with 20 assists and three digs, and Emily Deleissegues (Aromas, Calif.) led the Redhawks with 12 digs.

The first set was tied at 6-6 before two kills by Amber Tatsch and one from Colleen Carlson allowed the Toreros to take the lead for good. After San Diego scored five unanswered points to close out the first set, the home team scored four of the first five points in the second set to take the early lead. Richards earned a kill and an ace to bring SeattleU within three at 15-12, but the Toreros closed out the second set on a 10-2 run. San Diego took a 7-1 lead in the third set and closed out the match with another 7-1 run.

San Diego (5-3) earned a .371 hitting percentage, led by Carrie Baird, who collected 13 kills in 21 attempts without an error for a .619 hitting percentage. Tatsch finished with 11 kills, a .360 hitting percentage, four assists, and 12 digs, while Ali Troost earned eight kills, a .389 hitting percentage, and eight digs. Setter Kelsi Myers finished with 40 assists, and Kayleen Webster led all players with 17 defensive digs.

Seattle University (3-8) heads to San Luis Obispo, Calif., for the Mission Inn of Pismo Beach Invitational this weekend, first facing host school Cal Poly Friday, Sept. 18, at 10 a.m. Later Friday at 5 p.m., the Redhawks take on UC Santa Barbara before concluding the weekend Saturday, Sept. 19, against Santa Clara at 4:30 p.m. SeattleU returns for its first home match in 24 days next Tuesday, Sept. 22, against North Dakota at the Connolly Center starting at 7 p.m.
