With the majority of players competing in the first collegiate tournament of their careers, the Seattle University men's golf team earned an 11th-place finish at the Palouse Collegiate Tournament hosted by Washington State at the Palouse Ridge Golf Club.

Sam Bell (Park City, Utah) wrapped up the tournament with a third-round 76 to post a final score of 224 (+8) and finished in a tie for 26th place. Thanks in part to an eagle, Bell played well on the par-five holes, posting the sixth-best score by shooting five-under-par on the long holes.

Rob Seibly (Spokane, Wash.) moved into a tie for 55th place after shooting 76 in the final round for a two-day total of 232 (+16). He tied teammate Alec Pakzad (Bellevue, Wash.), who shot 81 in Tuesday's round to post an identical 232.

Justin Goar (Montesano, Wash.), the only SeattleU returning player to compete this week, tied Bell and Seibly for the team's low score of the third round, shooting 76 to finish in 70th place with a three-round total of 242 (+26). Preston Matchett (Billings, Mont.) shot 87 in the final round and finished in a tie for 71st place at 243 (+27), and Nowell Ancheta (Lancaster, Calif.) shot 81 to finish in 73rd place at 244 (+28).

Washington State won the team competition by four strokes over San Jose State. Kevin Tucker of the Cougars and Blake Brown of Boise State were declared co-champions after finishing the three rounds at 208 (-8). Austin Graham of UC Davis finished in third place after setting a course record with a 65 in Tuesday's round.

Seattle University will have a couple of weeks to prepare for its next competition, as the team will participate in the Saint Martin's Invitational in Olympia, Wash., on Sept. 25 and 26.
