Notre Dame (2-1-1) jumped on the board nine minutes into the match as Bright Dike set up Justin Morrow for his first goal of the season. SeattleU started to create chances midway through the first half, as John Pegg (Edmonton, Alberta) was credited with two shots. One of them went wide, while the other was stopped by Notre Dame goalie Philip Tuttle.
The Fighting Irish struck again almost 15 minutes into the second half, as Josh Thiermann sent a corner kick into the box, where Michael Thomas redirected the ball into the net for his second goal of the season. In the 72nd minute, John Schaefer earned his first goal of the season as Notre Dame extended its lead.
Notre Dame dominated the second half, allowing only one shot by SeattleU after halftime. Tuttle finished with two first-half saves in picking up the shutout, while SeattleU goalie Emerson DeOliveira (Normandy Park, Wash.) earned three saves, all in the second half. The Fighting Irish outshot the Redhawks, 19-7, and earned nine corner kicks against only two for SeattleU.
Seattle University (0-3-1) continues play in the Mike Berticelli Memorial Tournament Sunday against the Indiana Hoosiers, a 3-2 winner over New Mexico in Friday's first match, beginning at 11:30 a.m. local time. The Redhawks host Oregon State in their next home game Saturday, Sept. 19, beginning at 12:30 p.m. at Championship Field.
