This Week For The Redhawks: The Seattle University women's soccer team (2-0-0) takes to the road for two contests this week. Their first road trip will begin with a visit to cross-town rival University of Washington (0-0-0). The Redhawks will square off with Huskies on Wednesday, Aug. 26, at 7 p.m. PT at Huskies Soccer Stadium on the Washington campus. Two days later, SU will travel to Moscow, Idaho for a neutral sited match versus Utah Valley (0-1-0). The match is slated for 4 p.m. PT on Friday, Aug. 28, at University of Idaho's Guy Wicks Field.

Last Time Out: The Redhawks kicked off the 2009 campaign with back-to-back shutouts at home. They opened up the season versus Boise State on Aug. 21. with a 1-0 victory over the Broncos. In the 30th minute senior Jamie Coe received the ball just outside the penalty box. Coe crossed it to fellow senior Jamie Peterson, who chipped the ball into the far post over the BSU goalkeeper. SU posted an identical result two days later versus University of Idaho, as they edged the Vandals 1-0 on Aug. 23. For the second straight game, Coe passed off the game-winning assist, this time to junior Kara Kuttler who knocked in a shot to the far post past a diving Idaho 'keeper.

On Deck: After two games away from Championship Field, the Redhawks will return home to host Eastern Washington on Monday, Aug. 31, at 4 p.m., before taking to the road again. They will play in a lone match in California against Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo on Friday, Sept. 4, at 7 p.m.

Coach Woodward's Take: "We are looking forward to seeing how we are able to match up against University of Washington.  They are always a solid, athletic and well coached team.  They advanced a couple of games into the NCAA Tournament last year and return many of their experienced players," said head coach Julie Woodward.

This will be the first time the Redhawks will face UW since their last meeting in 1993. Woodward was a member of the last SU squad that took on the cross-town rival.

Scouting Washington: The University of Washington (0-0-0) will host their season and home opener versus the Redhawks. The Pac-10 team returns to the pitch behind a 15-6-1 record, a third-place conference finish and after advancing to the NCAA Tournament second round in 2008.

The Huskies return 19 letterwinners and 10 starters, including forward Veronic Perez. She had a breakout 2008 season, where she led UW with 13 goals, six of which were game-winners, and five assists for 31 points. In the net, underclassman Kari Davidson looks to have won the starting 'keeper job. She went 7-3-1 in her rookie campaign and had four shutouts after coming in mid-season as Washington's fulltime goal tender.

Scouting Utah Valley: After a promising pre-season, the Wolverine Green of Utah Valley was held at a standstill at their season opener against University of Utah. Utah Valley (0-1-0) dropped a 6-0 decision to the Utes on Aug. 21. UVU was held to nine total shots, while Utah went on to have 31 shots in the 90-minute contest.

The Wolverine's are led by Lauren Bluth and Kendra Buchanan, who both started the season opener and each had two shots in their loss to Utah.

Coe Makes Back-To-Back Game-Winning Assists: Senior tri-captain Jamie Coe served up back-to-back game-winning assists in SeattleU's opening weekend. The Redhawk forward crossed the ball to Jamie Peterson, who chipped her shot over the Boise States 'keeper on Aug. 21, to help lead SU to a 1-0 start. Two days later, on Aug. 23, Coe offered up her second straight assist, this time to junior Kara Kuttler. Kuttler's shot rolled past the diving Idaho goalkeeper to seal the SeattleU victory.

Behind the Duvall, Wash.'s two assists, the Redhawks managed to maintain an undefeated 2-0 record at home before they hit the road for a pair of games.

Redhawks Keep Opponents Scoreless at Home: In their first two games of the season, SeattleU posted back-to-back 1-0 shutouts over Boise State (Aug. 21) and Idaho (Aug. 23). Much credit is due to the Redhawk backline of Kate Edstrom, Nance Hill, Carlee Norquist and Jordan Salisbury. They protected the SU goal and prevented goalkeeper Madison Goverde from having too busy of a weekend between the pipes. SeattleU allowed only a combined five total shots on goal in their opening weekend.

Norquist Earns First Career Start: Freshman Carlee Norquist made her Redhawk debut in the starting lineup versus Boise State on Aug. 21. She was the lone freshman to get a starting job in SeattleU's season and home opener versus the Broncos. The newest SU defender also got the nod to start the Redhawks game versus Idaho on Aug. 23. She was part of the SeattleU backline that posted back-to-back 1-0 shutouts.

Go, Go, Goverde: Sophomore goalkeeper Madison Goverde helped lead the Redhawks to consecutive 1-0 shutouts over Boise State (Aug. 21) and Idaho (Aug. 23), in SeattleU's season opening weekend. The 'keeper tallied two saves versus BSU and three versus UI.

While the SeattleU fullbacks prevented both opponents from having solid opportunities to penetrate the SU box, the shutout versus Idaho was on the line in the 39th minute. The Redhawks committed a foul in the box, leading the Vandals to take a penalty kick. Goverde was composed and read the shot on target to preserve the SU victory.

Newcomers Come Off The Bench to Make Collegiate Debut: Freshmen Taylor Bolibol, Liana Heberer and Chelsea Jennings made their respective collegiate debut versus the Broncos of Boise State on Aug. 21. The trio came off the bench to join lone freshman starter Carlee Norquist on the field versus both BSU and UI. Bolibol had a shot versus UI, and Heberer and Jennings each had a shot versus BSU.
