“I look forward to serving the Division I-AAA Association again,” Hogan said. “To witness the growth from the beginning has been remarkable and this will clearly support Seattle U’s efforts in our return to Division I.”
About to enter his fourth year as athletic director, Hogan is a member of numerous organizations in , such as the Seattle Chamber of Commerce, the Washington Athletic Club, the 101 Club, the Seattle Sports Commission, and the Seattle Advisory Council for Parks and Recreation.
During his time at , Hogan has overseen the successful end of the Division II era of the athletic department, one that saw the men’s basketball, men’s soccer, women’s soccer, and softball programs all advance to NCAA postseason tournaments. This past academic year, as the teams began their transition to Division I status, five SU sport teams won NCAA Division I tournaments and several achieved national rankings in the top half for all Division I. The men’s basketball team in particular earned a Sagarin rating of 132 (out of 347).
Even with the move to Division I, Hogan has maintained the department’s focus on following the mission of the university, as six Seattle University student-athletes have earned Academic All-District honors during the 2008-09 year, with soccer player Kate Edstrom and softball student-athlete Jamie Foote advancing to earn third team Academic All-America accolades.
The athletic department is about to enter Year Two of the reclassification process towards Division I membership within the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). All 19 athletic teams, including the brand new baseball program, will follow Division I rules, including scheduling guidelines, beginning in the 2009-10 academic year.
