The athletic department saw 33 student-athletes receive bachelor’s degrees as they joined their fellow graduates in the Undergraduate Commencement Ceremony Sunday morning, June 14, at KeyArena at the .
Within the College of Arts and Sciences, softball player Jamie Foote (B.A.- Environmental Studies) and soccer player Sean Rawson (B.A. ? International Studies) graduated with summa cum laude honors. Earning magna cum laude honors were Rhiannon Cadelinia (B.A. ? Liberal Studies) and Jennifer Innes (B.A. ? Theology & Religious Studies) of the cross country and track & field program and Nathan Freeman (B.A. ? Political Science) of the swim team. Graduating with cum laude honors were soccer player Megan Fogarty (B.A. ? Psychology), swimmer Megan Lavin (Bachelor of Social Work), and basketball player Austen Powers (B.A. ? Liberal Studies).

Softball player Megan MacIsaac (B.A. ? Humanities for Teaching) earned her degree from the . Within the and Engineering, distance runner Katie Hansen (B.S. ? Biology) earned summa cum laude honors, and volleyball player Libby Graff (B.S. ? Mathematics) graduated with cum laude honors. Other student-athlete graduates from the and Engineering included: cross country and track & field participant Natalie Martinez (B.A. ? Biology), softball player Heather Hansen (B.S. ? General Science), and swimmer Anna Vanha (B.S. ? Biology), who also completed the University Honors Program on the way to her degree.
Four of these student-athletes will continue to live out the mission of by spending at least the next year in service organizations around the world. Freeman and Graff have joined Teach for , Fogarty will work for the Jesuit Volunteer Corps, and Rawson will head to as part of Jesuit Volunteer International.
The athletic department will begin Year Two of the four-year reclassification process towards Division I membership on July 1, 2009. Part of the department’s mission statement in action is “to create an athletic culture where student-athletes can realize balanced success in academics, athletics, and in all their collegiate pursuits and experiences.”
