Patrick Boorkman (Bellevue, Wash.) was able to win both his singles match and doubles match to propel Seattle University past Pacific Lutheran on Saturday evening at the SU Tennis Courts.?
Boorkman, along with partner Adam Strizich (Helena, Mont.), were able to help SU win the doubles point by defeating the Lutes’ Zach AhYat and Michael Manser in a thrilling match, 9-7. Dylan Reetz (Rockwell, Texas) and Matt Enkema (Bellevue, Wash.) were able to handle James Odan and Benjamin Fox, 8-1. The number one team of Mark Shkretbtan (Redmond, Wash.) and Alex Montgomery (Seattle, Wash.) fell in a hard fought match to Joel Trudel and Justin Peterson 8-4.
On the singles side, Seattle University claimed victories in the top three spots to clinch the victory. In the number one position, Shkretbtan defeated Trudel (6-3, 6-2), while Montgomery fended off Manser for the win (7-5, 6-3). Boorkman again provided one of the nights most thrilling matches, going the distance with Peterson, winning in a third set tiebreak that sealed the victory for SU (6-4, 1-6, 7-6 (7-5)).
In the four through six spots, Reetz fell in straight sets to AhYat (6-0, 6-2), Strizich was defeated in straight sets by Scott Sheldon (6-1, 6-4), and Enkema had a tough loss to Chris Dew (6-3, 3-6, 6-7 (10-5)).
With the win, Seattle University (3-6) snapped a five match losing streak. They will continue their season Friday, April 10 when they square off against Gonzaga University in Spokane starting at 2 p.m.?
