The Seattle University men’s tennis team concluded their first season back in Division I with a loss to Eastern Washington University, 7-0, at the University of Idaho Sunday afternoon.
The Redhawks were unable to get things going early in the morning, dropping the doubles point to start off. Alex Montgomery (Seattle, Wash.) and Matt Enkema (Bellevue, Wash.) fell to Nico Riego de Dios and Kyle Schraeder in the number one spot, 8-3. Mark Shkretbtan (Redmond, Wash.) and Dylan Reetz (Rockwall, Texas) were defeated by Pannhara Mam and Daniel Pez, 8-4, while Adam Strizich (Helena, Mont.) and Patrick Boorkman (Bellevue, Wash.) fell to Julian Sanchez and Art Karas, 8-2.
In singles play, Dios defeated Shkretbtan in the number spot (6-1, 6-1), while Montgomery retired to Mam during the first set. Boorkman fought hard against Karas in the third spot, but eventually fell in straight sets (6-4, 6-4). In the four through six positions, Pez defeated Reetz (6-0, 6-1), Sanchez beat Strizich (6-1, 6-2), and Chad Henninger defeated Enkema (6-0, 6-0).
Seattle University will return to action next season and finished off their first year with a 4-11 mark.
