The Seattle University men’s tennis team was unable to overcome Gonzaga University late Friday evening, losing to the Bulldogs 6-1 at the Gonzaga University tennis courts.
Scoring the only victory for the Redhawks in singles play was the number five player, Adam Strizich (Helena, Mont.), who was able to put together a strong third set for the win (6-1, 4-6, 10-7). Strizich also paired up with Patrick Boorkman (Bellevue, Wash.) in the number three doubles position to defeat Mike Merz and Michael Schuster in the tiebreaker, 8-7 (7-4).
Mark Shkretbtan (Redmond, Wash.) fell to Stefan Fedderson in straight-sets in the number one spot (6-4, 6-3), while Alex Montgomery (Seattle, Wash.) lost his first set (6-0) to Roman Dojcak before retiring in the second set. Boorkman was unable to overcome Jake Davis in the third spot, losing in straight-sets (6-2, 6-4). Dylan Reetz (Rockwell, Texas) fell to Scott Sullivan in the four spot (6-2, 6-3), while Matt Enkema (Bellevue, Wash.) was defeated by Zach peach in the six position (6-1, 6-1).
In the last two doubles, Dojcak and Sullivan defeated the number one pair for SU, Shkretbtan and Enkema, 8-3, as Montgomery and Reetz fell to Davis and Falkowski in the two spot, 8-6.
The men’s team will return to action tomorrow afternoon for two matches, the first against Whitworth University at 10 a.m. and the second against Gonzaga at 2 p.m. in Spokane.
