Justin Goar (Montesano, Wash.) shot a season-best 64 to give the men’s golf team a boost, and the women’s golf team placed three in the top ten as Seattle University concluded play in the Concordia Cavalier Spring Classic Tuesday at the Tri-Mountain Golf Course.
After shooting 81 in the first round Monday, Goar improved by 17 strokes to finish in a tie for fifth place with a two-day total of 145 (+1), just three strokes behind individual winner Sam Ayotte of Southwest Oregon. Kevin Ormiston (, ) followed a first-day 76 with a score of 79 in the second round to finish in a tie for 26th place with 155 (+11), while Travis Michael () shaved five strokes off his first-round score, pairing an 81 with a 76 to finish at 157 (+13) to share 32nd place.
Alex Schultz (Missoula, Mont.) also improved on the second day, shooting 88 in the second round after a first-day 96 to finish at 184 (+40), and Kyle Finnegan (University Place, Wash.) posted a score of 98 each day for a two-day total of 196 (+52). As a team, the men posted a season-best score of 307 in the second round to move up to ninth place with a final total of 641 (+65).
On the women’s side, Kelsey Johnson (, ) finished sixth, coupling an 84 with an 81 for a two-day total of 165 (+21), ten strokes behind individual winner Lindsay Aho of . Dianne Alcantara (Hillsboro, Ore.) shot 83 in the first round and 86 in the second round to finish ninth with a two-round score of 169 (+25), just ahead of teammate Caitlin McCleary (The Dalles, Ore.), who shot 89 and 81 for a two-day total of 170 (+26), good enough for tenth place.
Michelle Grome () showed a six-stroke improvement, posting a score of 96 in the first round followed by a second-round score of 90 to finish in a tie for 18th place with a final score of 186 (+42). As a team, the SeattleU women finished in third place, combining scores of 352 and 338 for a two-day total of 690 (+114).
