The Seattle University men’s tennis was competitive in several matches, but in the end Utah State was able to earn a 7-0 victory Saturday morning in a neutral site match held at the University of Portland.
Utah State won all three doubles sets to earn the doubles point, starting with the number one duo of Jakob Asplund and Bryan Marchant defeating Seattle University’s Dylan Reetz (Rockwall, Texas) and Mark Shkretbtan (Redmond, Wash.), 8-3. In the number two doubles position, Amit Maharaj and Alex Thatcher defeated Patrick Boorkman (Bellevue, Wash.) and Adam Strizich (Helena, Mont.), 8-6, while Mike Banks and Jordan Barlow defeated Joel Thomas (Edmonds, Wash.) and Alex Montgomery (Seattle, Wash.) in the number three doubles slot, 8-1.
In the number three singles position, Reetz won the first set in a tiebreaker, but Thatcher would rally to win the next two sets and the match (6-7 (7-3), 6-1, 7-5). At the number four singles slot, Montgomery forced the first set to a tiebreaker, but Barlow won the tiebreaker on his way to a straight set victory (7-6 (7-2), 6-1).
Maharaj defeated Shkretbtan in the number one singles position (6-2, 6-3), while Banks earned a victory over Boorkman in the number two singles match (6-2, 6-3). In the number five singles position, Brandon Nielsen defeated Strizich (6-2, 6-0), and Matt Searle defeated Matt Enkema (Bellevue, Wash.) in the number six singles slot (6-3, 6-4).
Seattle University (2-5) will host the U.S. Air Force Academy next Saturday, March 21, at the Sammamish Tennis Club in Issaquah, Wash., beginning at 9 a.m.
