Friday night at the Mountain Park Racquet Club, the Seattle University men’s tennis team lost to the Portland State Vikings, 7-0.
Patrick Boorkman (Bellevue, Wash.) and Adam Strizich (Helena, Mont.) earned a victory over the Viking duo of Kyle Erickson and Adam Blackner in the number two doubles position, 8-5. However, Portland State was able to pick up the doubles point as Chris Rice and Alex Hart defeated Alex Montgomery (Seattle, Wash.) and Mark Shkretbtan (Redmond, Wash.) in the number one doubles slot, 8-5, and Jeff Cero and Alex VanDerschelden were victorious over Dylan Reetz (Rockwall, Texas) and Joel Thomas (Edmonds, Wash.) in the number three doubles match, 8-1.
In singles action, Rice defeated Shkretbtan in the number one singles position (6-2, 6-2), VanDerschelden picked up the victory in the number two slot after Montgomery retired due to injury (6-3, def.), and Erickson defeated Boorkman in straight sets at the number three singles position (6-1, 6-1).
At the number four singles spot, Cero defeated Reetz (6-1, 6-0), Strizich lost to Branislav Valach at the number five singles position (6-1, 6-2), and Blackner defeated Matt Enkema (Bellevue, Wash.) in the number six singles match (6-2, 6-3).
Seattle University (2-4) will stay in Portland and face Utah State at the University of Portland Saturday, March 14, at 9 a.m. The team will play its first home match in over two months next Saturday, March 21, against the Air Force Academy at the Sammamish Club in Issaquah beginning at 9 a.m.
