Competing against some of the top swimming talent in the , members of the swim team continue to hold their own and post impressive times Friday in the USA Swimming Austin Grand Prix at the Lee and .
Hayley Cobb () set a new school record and swam below the previous American record in the 200 yard freestyle, finishing 44th overall in the preliminaries with a time of 1:54.88. In the evening finals of the 200 meter freestyle, Cobb finished second in the “E” final and 34th overall by posting a time of 2:08.96.
Another school record was set by Doug Djang (), who broke Jakub Jiracek’s record in the 100 yard breaststroke in the morning preliminaries with a time of 54.80 seconds, placing 15th. He held that position in the evening finals, finishing 15th in the 100 meter breaststroke with a time of 1:05.17.
Bryson Chiu () finished 19th in the 400 yard individual medley with a time of 4:04.69 in the morning preliminaries. He was able to move up to the “B” final in the evening finals and finished 16th in the 400 meter individual medley with a time of 4:49.64. Chiu also competed in the 200 yard freestyle, posting a time of 1:46.65.
The three swimmers will conclude their participation in the Austin Grand Prix Saturday, with preliminaries beginning at 9:30 a.m. local time and finals commencing at 5:30 p.m.
