On day one of the 2009 Austin Grand Prix, Doug Djang (Seattle, Wash.) and Bryson Chiu (Carmel, Ind.) got off to an impressive start with multiple personal and school top times.

Chiu started the morning off in the 100 yard butterfly preliminaries where he turned in a time of 50.34, crushing his previous best of 54.79. The time was good enough to put Chiu in the C Final where he finished the 100 meter swim in a time of 59.97, placing eighth. In the 200 yard individual medley preliminaries, Chiu turned in a time of 1:51.59. Later in the evening he finished sixth in the C Final of the 200 meter IM with a personal best of 2:11.72.

During the 50 yard freestyle it was Djang setting a new school record of 20.69 breaking his old mark of 21.23. Djang later competed in the C Final of the 50 meter freestyle where he placed fourth in a time of 24.25 which broke the old school record of 24.91.

The Seattle University swimmers will be back in action tomorrow for day two of the competition starting at 9:30 a.m. The event is being hosted by the University of Texas at the Longhorn Aquatics Center.
