The Seattle University track team ran just five runners in the first day of the Husky Classic, but three out of the five came away with new school records.
In the men’s 200 meter dash, Christopher Fussell (Las Vegas, Nev.) set a new top time of 22.61. Also running the 200 was Jim Mezzera (San Francisco, Calif.) who ran a 22.81 and Zach Stanfield (Adna, Wash.) with a 22.86. Tom Mezzera (San Francisco, Calif.) set the new school mark in the 400 meter dash with a time of 49.92. Jim Mezzera also turned in a time of 7.16 in the 60 meter dash.
On the women’s side, once again it was Katie Hansen (Portland, Ore.) who set a new time in the 5000 meter run. Hansen shattered her old school mark by shaving off more than a minute, turning in a time of 16:57.17. Her time won Hansen the heat and placed her 14th overall in the race.
Head Coach Trisha Steidl was more than pleased with today’s performances. “Three school records from 5 competitors equal an awesome day for our team. Everyone who competed today showed they are ready for the next level and are helping our team move in that direction. I'm proud of the tenacity shown by those who competed today and believe it's a jump-start of great things to come at tomorrow's meet.”
Seattle University will be back on the track tomorrow morning starting at 8 a.m. The team will be running in the University of Washington Indoor Open at the Dempsey Indoor Complex.
