The men’s soccer team scored three goals within the last 9:03 of the first half and its defense again kept the opposition off the scoreboard as the Redhawks defeated the North Florida Ospreys, 3-0, Monday to win the UC Irvine College Classic at Anteater Stadium.
The scoring started in the 36th minute when Brandon Hamer (, ) sent a pass from the middle of the field to Andrew Kreiter () on the left side. Kreiter’s shot went past Osprey goalkeeper Tony Restino to give a 1-0 lead.
In the 40th minute, freshman Elliot Richards () sent a blast from 35 yards out towards the net which eluded Restino and gave the Redhawks a 2-0 advantage. kept up the offensive pressure as Kyle Peterman (, ) sent a cross into the box to Ian Walsh (), whose volley with 39 seconds remaining in the half found the back of the net.
earned eight shots on goal in the first half, as Restino kept (0-2) in the match with five first-half saves. Jordan Jennings (, ) picked up the shutout for , needing to make only one save in the second half to post his fourth career shutout.
Kreiter finished the day with five total shots, four of them on goal, while Richards and Walsh each earned two shots on goal during the match. Each team earned four corner kick opportunities during the afternoon.
