Seattle University head golf coach Don Rasmussen has announced the schedule for the men's and women's golf teams during the fall 2008 season, the first season for varsity golf at Seattle University in many years.

The women's golf team will start things off on Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 15-16, at a tournament hosted by Washington State University. The men's golf team will begin competition the next week, first competing in the Saint Martin's Invitational in Olympia, Wash., on Sept. 23-24, then heading to Bellingham, Wash., for the Western Washington Invitational on Sept. 26-27.

The women's golf team will head to Tumwater, Wash., for the Saint Martin's Invitational on Oct. 9-10, followed by the Western Washington Invitational in Bellingham, Wash., on Oct. 13-14. At the same time, the men's golf team will be participating in a tournament hosted by the University of Victoria, tentatively set for The Cedars of Dungeness in Sequim, Wash., on Oct. 13-14.

Along with the schedule, Rasmussen announced the names of the first student-athletes to join the Seattle University golf program. Five student-athletes have committed to playing on the women's golf team: Dianne Alcantara, Taylor Conway, Michelle Grome, Kelsey Johnson, and Courtney Wilson. On the men's side, Justin Goar and Kevin Ormiston have already joined the squad, with more names to be announced soon.

"This is a great start to the rebuilding of the Seattle University golf program," Rasmussen said. "Each one of these student-athletes will help us build the foundation for the future."

The Seattle University golf program joins the rest of the athletic department in Year One of the reclassification process towards becoming a Division I member of the NCAA.
