The women’s track and field team was named a Division II All-Academic Track and Field Team by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), which also honored Katie Hansen () for her performance both in the classroom and on the track.
was one of 58 programs to earn the academic honor from the coaches’ association. According to grade point average, the team ranked 28th among all the teams, with the earning the highest cumulative grade point average at 3.67. was one of four GNAC schools to earn the honor, joining Seattle Pacific, Northwest Nazarene, and .
Hansen was one of 222 student-athletes to earn a spot on the 2008 USTFCCCA Women’s Track and Field All-Academic team after posting a 3.91 grade point average while majoring in biology. She also qualified for the 2008 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships, finishing 11th in the finals of the 3000 meter run at the event.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met the NCAA Division II Indoor or Outdoor automatic or provisional qualifying standard in their respective event. For a team to be nominated as an All-Academic Team, it must carry a minimum 3.00 cumulative grade point average.
The track and field teams join the rest of the athletic program in the school’s reclassification to NCAA Division I status.
