Seven student-athletes, four from the women’s basketball team and three from the men’s basketball team, are among the 52 players named to the Academic All-GNAC teams, announced Wednesday by the conference office.

Senior Jackie Thomas () was one of three GNAC student-athletes to earn the academic honor for the third year in a row, compiling a 3.70 grade point average while majoring in sociology. Fellow senior Travis Welt (, ) and juniors Leigh Swanson (, ) and Quinn Brewe () were named Academic All-GNAC for the second straight season. Welt is a civil engineering major with a 3.37 GPA, Swanson has a 3.42 GPA while majoring in marketing, and Brewe is an English major with a 3.80 GPA, highest among the representatives.

Laina Sobczak ( Place, ), the tenth member of the women’s basketball 1,000-point club, makes the list for the first time with a 3.23 grade point average while majoring in sociology. Also making their first appearance on the Academic All-GNAC team are sophomore guards Taylor Olson (, ) and Cassidy Murillo (). Olson has a 3.21 grade point average and is majoring in business, while Murillo is a pre-major in the sciences with a 3.38 GPA.

tied Alaska Fairbanks for the second-most representatives on the academic teams with seven each, behind Seattle Pacific, who had nine players on this year’s teams. To be eligible for the academic team, student-athletes must have a minimum grade point average of 3.20 and be in at least their second year of competition at their university.

The basketball teams wrap up the regular season this weekend at home. After the women’s team hosts seventh-ranked Alaska Anchorage Thursday, March 6, beginning at 7 p.m., the teams host a doubleheader Saturday, March 8, beginning at 5 p.m. First the women’s team faces Alaska Fairbanks, and then the men’s team takes on Montana State Billings. Before each game, Senior Night ceremonies will take place recognizing the eight seniors (five women and three men) playing the final regular season game of their collegiate careers.
