After scoring a season-high 35 points, including 18 of the team’s final 20 points of the game, in Saturday’s 83-78 overtime victory at Montana State Billings, junior Chelsie Morrison () has been named GNAC Player of the Week, announced by the conference office.
Morrison made 14-of-23 shots from the field, including 5-of-11 from behind the three-point line, and also connected on two free throws with ten seconds remaining in overtime to ice the game for Seattle University. Morrison hit a three-pointer with 21 seconds left in regulation to tie the game 71-71 and force overtime, and then she scored 11 of ’s 12 points in overtime as the Redhawks won a road game for the first time since Jan. 3 at Alaska Fairbanks.
With Saturday’s performance, Morrison has regained the team lead in scoring, averaging 11.6 points per game. She is shooting 44.9 percent from the field (93-of-207), including 50.0 percent from the three-point line (39-of-78), and 86.4 percent from the free throw line (19-of-22). She also leads the squad with 14 blocked shots and is third in total rebounds with 71.
Morrison is the third player to earn the conference’s weekly honor this season. Quinn Brewe (, ) earned the honor on Dec. 24 after helping defeat BYU-Hawaii and Hawaii Pacific on the road, and Jackie Thomas (, ) picked up the award on Jan. 14 after she led SeattleU past Western Washington and .
(14-7, 5-7 GNAC) will look to maintain the momentum from Saturday’s victory as it gears up to face undefeated Seattle Pacific Thursday, Feb. 21, at the beginning at 7 p.m.
