After helping earn key road victories against two teams ranked in the top ten of the regional rankings, fifth-ranked Northwest Nazarene and third-ranked Seattle Pacific, junior Michael Wright () has been named the GNAC Player of the Week, announced Monday morning by the conference office.
Last Thursday in , Wright shot 7-of-9 from the field in scoring 14 points, plus he dished out four assists and earned a game-high six steals. Wright had three steals and two assists during a two-minute span in which SeattleU scored eight unanswered points to pull into a 59-59 tie after being down by as much as 13 points earlier in the second half.
Saturday night at Seattle Pacific, Wright missed only one field goal attempt, shooting 7-of-8 from the field as he notched his second double-double of the season with 15 points and 10 rebounds, plus he blocked two shots during the game. During SeattleU’s 19-3 run in the second half to erase a ten-point deficit, Wright scored six points and pulled down six rebounds to give the Redhawks only their second victory at Royal Brougham Pavilion in the last 16 meetings there.
Wright has started the last five games for SeattleU, averaging 12.2 points and 6.8 rebounds per game in those starts. He is fourth in the GNAC in field goal percentage, hitting 59.2 percent (74-of-125) of his attempts, and tied for 11th in the conference in rebounding with 6.0 rebounds per game. In his six starts this season for the Redhawks, including one against in November, the team is 5-1.
Seattle University (13-7, 6-5 GNAC) returns to the Connolly Center for the first time in 19 days, hosting Saint Martin’s University Thursday, Feb. 14, beginning at 7 p.m. This begins the final stretch in which SeattleU will play five of its final seven regular season games at home.
