Seattle Women’s Hoops Improves to 9-0
Redhawks sweep their two game road trip in Hawaii
Seattle University Women’s Basketball got their second win in as many nights on their road trip in Hawaii when they defeated Hawaii Pacific, 75-56. Seattle jumped out to a big lead in the first half before cruising to the win.
Starting just her second game this season, Quinn Brewe (Edmonds, Wash.) led Seattle with 15 points and nine rebounds. Laina Sobczak (University Place, Wash.) chipped in ten points and eight rebounds as Seattle dominated the glass, outrebounding HPU, 53-39.
Seattle got off to a hot start and built a 45-28 lead at the break. The Redhawks knocked down five 3-point baskets in the first half and shot 41.7 percent (15-36) for the period. Seattle held the Sea Warriors to just 33.3 percent (9-27) shooting including 10.0 percent (1-10) from beyond the arc.
Seattle struggled with their shot in the second half, but maintained their lead to cruise to an easy victory. The Redhawks shot just 1-14 from distance in the half, but held HPU to just 30.8 percent (8-26) to maintain the lead.
Also finishing in double figures for Seattle were Chelsie Morrison (Portland, Ore.) and Tatiana Heck (Mountlake Terrace, Wash.) with ten points apiece. Jackie Thomas (Tacoma, Wash.) also chipped in six points and a career high six steals.
Ashley Jenkins led the Sea Warriors with 18 points, but shot just 6-19 from the field. Jocelyn Norris added eight points and nine rebounds.
This afternoon’s game concluded the non-conference schedule for Seattle. Seattle opens the conference season when it travels to Alaska for a two game road trip versus Alaska Fairbanks on Thursday, January 3 at 7:00 p.m. and at Alaska Anchorage on Saturday, January 5 at 7:00 p.m.
