Sarah Dean (Coeur d’Alene, Idaho) connected on a blast from 30 yards out four minutes into overtime to give the 11th-ranked Seattle University women’s soccer team a 1-0 victory over Western Oregon Friday afternoon in GNAC action at the WOU Soccer Field.

controlled the action for the vast majority of the match, enjoying a 17-4 advantage in shots and a 9-2 advantage in corner kicks. goalie Kelsie Blachly held the Redhawks scoreless throughout regulation, earning seven saves during the afternoon. However, she could not stop Dean’s fourth goal of the season, as the sophomore gave its first overtime win of the season.

Western Oregon (3-11-2, 3-7 GNAC) had a solid chance in regulation, but Naomi Shimabuku’s shot from 15 yards out hit the crossbar. goalie Kaitlyn Jackson () was credited with one save in picking up her 11th shutout of the season. With the victory, the Redhawks remain one game behind Seattle Pacific in the GNAC standings, with the two rivals scheduled to meet next Wednesday night at Interbay Stadium.

Seattle University (14-2, 9-1 GNAC) continues a three-match road swing Sunday, Oct. 21, traveling to the Thurston County Athletic Complex in Lacey, Wash., to face Saint Martin’s beginning at 2:30 p.m. After a key conference and regional contest at Seattle Pacific on Wednesday, Oct. 24, the Redhawks return home Saturday, Oct. 27, to face Northwest Nazarene at Championship Field beginning at 12 noon.
