Jason Cascio scores both goals on assists from Dustin Allbery

men’s soccer team used one early and one late goal, both scored by Jason Cascio, to defeat Seattle Pacific 2-1, Saturday afternoon at Championship Field.

In the fifth minute, Dustin Allbery sprinted with the ball to the endline on an overlapping run to slip a quick pass into the box. Cascio was waiting, made a quick turn, and deposited his sixth goal of the season into the back of the net. The assist was the sixth of the year for Allbery.

Neither team managed a goal the rest of the first half with outshooting SPU 10-3 in the half. The game was competitive and at times rough with 21 total fouls in the half, as neither of the crosstown rivals was willing to give an inch.

In the second half, SPU tied the score with a goal by Colin Cosco in the 54th minute. The goal was chipped into the net after Cosco received a pass from James Coggan, who earned the assist.

The game remained tied until late in the half when once again Allbery created a scoring opportunity. This time he carried the ball from his defensive position, split two defenders and dribbled all the way into the box. His shot was blocked by SPU keeper Kellen Rosten, but Cascio was again there to corral the rebound and send it into the net for the game-winning goal. Casico’s second goal of the afternoon was his seventh of the season. The same was true from Allbery whose second assist was his team-leading seventh of the year.

Emerson DeOliveira played well in goal, allowing just the one goal while making five saves. He made one key second half save coming on a header off a corner kick where he snatched the ball out of the upper corner of the goal to preserve a tie at that juncture. Rosten made just one save for Seattle Pacific.

The win is ’s seventh in a row and pushes their record to 12-2 and 4-1 in GNAC. SPU falls to 6-3-5 and 1-1-1 in GNAC.
