In a battle for the ball at the beginning of the second overtime period, Seattle Pacific’s Jocelyn Charette was able to pop up a shot that sailed into the net, giving the third-ranked Falcons a 2-1 victory over 15th-ranked Saturday afternoon in GNAC women’s soccer action at Championship Field.

The defense was attempting to clear the ball after the opening kick of the second overtime, but Charette was able to get her foot on the ball, redirecting it into the air in the opposite direction. The ball sailed into the net for the game-winning tally, keeping Seattle Pacific’s perfect 12-0 record (6-0 GNAC) intact.

The Falcons opened the scoring in the 15th minute, as Charette sent a cross to Shannon Oakes, whose shot went past goalie Kaitlyn Jackson () to give Seattle Pacific an early 1-0 lead. increased its offensive attack, as the Redhawks forced Falcon goalie Jesslyn Rahm to make several saves in the first half.

broke through in the 36th minute. After a foul was called on Seattle Pacific, Ashley Porter (), with the help of a tail wind, sent a free kick from just past the midfield line into the box. Jasmine Wilson (SeaTac, ) sent a header into the net to tie the match.

The momentum switched midway through the second half, as Seattle Pacific’s offense started putting pressure on the SU defense. With less than ten minutes left in regulation, Charette sent a shot on net, but made a spectacular save to keep the ball out of the net and keep the match tied. The defense held Sarah Martinez, the GNAC’s leading goal scorer heading into the match, without a shot the entire day.

Rahm finished the match with five saves in earning her 12th victory in as many matches, while earned two saves during the afternoon. The Falcons outshot the Redhawks, 13-8, and earned seven corner kicks while holding to two corner kicks, limiting Porter’s chances to set up a scoring opportunity.

(10-2, 5-1 GNAC) travels to next weekend to face Montana State Billings Saturday, Oct. 6, beginning at 1 p.m. local time. The Redhawks return home Wednesday, Oct. 10, for a GNAC match against at Championship Field beginning at 3 p.m.
