For leading the volleyball team to a sweep of the schools in the 49th state, Nikole Thompson () has been named GNAC Co-Player of the Week, announced Monday morning by the conference office.

Thompson earned 38 kills, 29 digs, and eight total blocks as defeated Alaska Anchorage and Alaska Fairbanks over the weekend, only the second time in seven seasons that the Redhawks have swept the schools on the road. After notching 17 kills, 19 digs, and three blocks against the Seawolves, Thompson led with 21 kills, plus she contributed ten digs and five blocks in Saturday’s five-game victory over the Nanooks.

Thompson is the fourth player in history and the 17th player in GNAC history to total at least 1,000 career kills, earning her 1,000th career kill the same night she tied the single-match school record with 29 kills against on Sept. 13. She presently has 1,046 career kills, 56 kills behind Megan Kaysinger for third place on ’s all-time kills list. Thompson already owns the school’s record for most attack attempts in a career with 3,431.

This is the fifth time in her career that Thompson has earned at least a share of the GNAC weekly honor, tied with Mallory Bergstrom of Alaska Fairbanks for most in the conference’s history. Thompson shares this week’s honor with Courtney Schneider of Western Washington, who broke her own GNAC single-match record for digs with 50 in the Vikings’ 3-1 victory over .
