Cal State Dominguez Hills gained a measure of revenge for being eliminated from last year's Far West Regional by Seattle University, as the Toros defeated the sixth-ranked Redhawks, 2-0, in men's soccer action Sunday evening at Toro Stadium.

Both teams had chances to score in the first half, but either the goalies were up to the task or the shots just missed the net. Three shots by Cal State Dominguez Hills went just wide, while back-to-back attempts by Seattle's Jason Cascio (Gilbert, Ariz.) were turned away by Toro goalie Derby Carrillo.

Cal State Dominguez Hills (2-1) broke through in the 67th minute as Sammy Rivas sent a ball to Jose Serpas, whose shot tipped off Redhawk goalie Emerson DeOliveira (Normandy Park, Wash.) into the goal to give the Toros a 1-0 lead. As Seattle intensified its offensive pressure in the final minutes, CSU Dominguez Hills used a counterattack in the 87th minute, with Scott Mariano setting up Rivas for the insurance goal.

Carrillo earned five saves in notching the shutout, while DeOliveira was credited with one save in the match.

Seattle University (3-1) concludes its five-match road swing by facing Cal State Los Angeles, the team the Redhawks defeated to win the Far West Regional last November, on Tuesday, Sept. 4, beginning at 1 p.m. Seattle opens its home schedule next Sunday, Sept. 9, against Notre Dame de Namur beginning at 2:30 p.m. at Championship Field.
