Senior Leah Wymer (, ) took advantage of mistakes by Cal State Stanislaus to earn a hat trick, and her teammates followed suit with three goals in the span of a minute and a half to help 12th-ranked pull away with a 7-1 victory Thursday afternoon at Championship Field.
Wymer’s first goal came in the 18th minute, as she stole the ball and sent a shot that deflected off Stanislaus goalie Jessica Sitarz and rolled into the net. Right after halftime, Wymer made a similar play, taking the ball away from the Warrior defense and racing to the right post before sending a shot that found the lower left corner of the net.
The offense continued to pressure the Warrior defense, getting the ball into the box in the 52nd minute. After an errant header by a Stanislaus defender, Jasmine Wilson () wheeled around with a shot that snuck inside the right post to give the Redhawks a 3-0 advantage.
The flurry of goals started in the 66th minute, when Kara Kuttler (, ) sent a corner kick into the box and Ashley Porter’s () header hit the crossbar. The ball fell straight to Sarah Dean (), who sent her own header into the open net. Porter was able to earn her own goal 46 seconds later on a free kick from just past the midfield line, followed by Wymer’s third goal of the match 50 seconds later to make the score 6-0.
finished off its scoring four minutes later, as Kate Edstrom (, ) sent a free kick towards the net, where Jamie Coe (, ) used her head to send a pass to Kahlyn Keilty-Lucas (), whose header found the back of the net for her third goal of the season. Cal State Stanislaus broke the shutout a minute later, as Mackenzie Flandro found Alex Vallee, whose slipped the ball past goalie Kaitlyn Jackson ().
With her three goals, Wymer moved into fourth place on ’s all-time goals list with 33 career goals. Porter earned her 40th career assist, just eight behind Jamie French’s school record of 48 career assists. Head coach Julie Woodward is now just one victory away from her 150th career win.
