For the second straight season, John Fishbaugher (, ) scored ’s first goal of the season and later added an assist to help the 12th-ranked Redhawks defeat , 3-0, at the Seawolf Soccer Classic hosted by at the Seawolf Soccer Field.
Halfway through the first half, drew a foul just outside the box, earning a free kick. Fishbaugher launched a shot that found the lower right corner of the goal to give a 1-0 lead. Although they did not score again in the first half, the Redhawks controlled most of the action, taking six shots and four corner kicks.
As the second half started, freshman Jake Ellig () corralled the ball and streaked towards the net. His first shot was blocked by Humboldt goalie Drew Ryan, but he collected the rebound and found the lower left corner of the net to increase ’s lead to 2-0.
Midway through the second half, once again gained possession, as Dustin Allbery () sent a pass towards Fishbaugher in the middle of the field. Fishbaugher sent a ball into the box, where Ian Walsh () was waiting at the right post. Walsh’s header eluded Ryan and gave the Redhawks a three-goal advantage.
In his first start for Seattle University, goalie Emerson DeOliveira (Normandy Park, Wash.) made two saves and successfully kept the Lumberjacks at bay in notching his first career shutout. finished the match with a 17-6 shot advantage.
(1-0) continues its five-match road swing with its second contest in the Seawolf Classic on Sunday, August 25. The Redhawks will face the host Seawolves at 2 p.m. at Seawolf Soccer Field before heading south for matches at Cal State Stanislaus, Cal State Dominguez Hills, and Cal State Los Angeles.i
