Leah Wymer (, ) scored just over four and a half minutes after the opening kickoff of the 2007 season and Ashley Porter () contributed two assists as the 17th-ranked Seattle University women’s soccer team defeated Humboldt State, 3-0, in the first match of the Seawolf Soccer Classic hosted by Sonoma State at Seawolf Soccer Field.

Porter sent the ball into the box from the right side of the field and found Wymer in the left side of the box. After eluding a Humboldt defender, Wymer sent a shot past goalie Kelly Sandberg to give the Redhawks the early lead.

The score remained 1-0 until late in the first half, when a long ball from Kate Edstrom (, ) slipped through the hands of Sandberg and right to the foot of Kahlyn Keilty-Lucas (, ), who converted with 3:46 remaining before halftime to double ’s lead.

One minute into the second half, on a free kick, Porter sent a ball into the box, finding Jamie Coe (). Coe’s shot eluded backup goalie Chandra Gaskalla, increasing the Redhawks’ lead to 3-0. kept the pressure on Gaskalla throughout the second half, taking 15 shots after halftime, including a header by Keilty-Lucas that hit the post and a floating shot from Porter that nicked the crossbar but stayed out of the net.

Senior goalie Kaitlyn Jackson () earned her ninth career shutout, picking up one save and denying the Lumberjacks on several other scoring chances. earned ten corner kicks during the match while holding to only one corner kick in the afternoon.

(1-0) continues play in the Seawolf Soccer Classic Saturday, August 25, at 3 p.m. against . After a match at next Tuesday, the Redhawks face Cal State Stanislaus in the home opener at Championship Field next Thursday, August 30, at 4 p.m.
