SEATTLE, Wash. - Trisha Steidl, head coach of the Seattle University cross country and track and field program, has announced the group of student-athletes that have enrolled at Seattle University and plan to join the Redhawk program beginning in the 2007-08 academic year.
Haley McGoldrick (Scottsdale, Ariz.), Sarah Mulloy (Vancouver, Wash.), and Kerianne Quiocho (Tacoma, Wash.) will add to the depth of the women's cross country team. McGoldrick finished 130th in the 2005 Foot Locker West meet, while Quiocho earned an 86th-place finish at the 2006 Washington state cross country meet.
On the men's side, Max Cole (Fort Collins, Colo.) boasts two top 200 finishes at the Colorado state cross country meet, while Adam Kollgaard (Kent, Wash.) has run a personal best of 17:20 over five kilometers during his cross country running career. Doug Rudeen (Boise, Idaho) finished 19th at the 2006 Idaho state cross country meet, and Michael Van Nuland (Renton, Wash.) will also join the squad in time for the 2007 fall season.
"The three ladies add invaluable depth and excitement to the program, which is needed to take it to the next level," Steidl said. "The addition of the four gentlemen to our team adds an amazing amount of depth to our program that will help push everyone to achieve their highest goals."
Steidl and her staff have also brought in several track athletes to help increase the size of those squads. On the women's side, Kaci Rae Christopher (Hillsboro, Ore.) will concentrate on the 100 meter hurdles and the javelin throw, Sara DeMartini (San Francisco, Calif.) and RueLani Valaile (Des Moines, Wash.) will compete in the throwing events, and Clare Monahan (Centennial, Colo.) and Mimi Nguyen (Pacific, Wash.) will add depth in the jumping events.
Jude Martinez (Hagatna, Guam) has run a personal best of 23.5 seconds in the 200 meter dash and will also compete in the long jump for the men's track team. Duong "Young" Truong (Seattle, Wash.) has a personal best of 11.5 seconds in the 100 meter dash, and junior Ku'ualoha Whittle (Waimanalo, Hawaii) brings a personal best of 19'8" in the long jump to the squad.
"Each of these student-athletes will add to the overall breadth and depth of our team and I'm excited to have them, as they will help in our team becoming a stronger group," said Steidl.
The Seattle University track and field teams are coming off a season in which they set 18 new school records over the indoor and outdoor campaigns. In the fall of 2007, the cross country teams will be looking to improve on their 16th place regional finishes from last season.
