EUGENE, Ore. - After competing in individual events earlier in the day, Daniel Sullivan (Tukwila, Wash.) and Nicholas Dols (Portland, Ore.) joined Garrett Brown (Edmonds, Wash.) and Loyal Allen, Jr. (Seattle, Wash.), in setting a new school record in the 4x400 meter relay Saturday at the Oregon Invitational at Hayward Field.
The four runners combined to run a time of 3:19.41, 36/100ths of a second faster than the previous school record, set back on May 10, 2003, at a meet hosted by Seattle Pacific. The team finished sixth in the event, ahead of quartets from Division I schools Eastern Washington, Portland State, North Dakota State, Central Michigan, and Cal State Fullerton, as well as GNAC rivals Western Washington, Western Oregon, and Central Washington.
Earlier in the afternoon session, Sullivan finished 11th in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 54.99 seconds. In the morning session, Dols finished 13th in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:55.62. Both men have already qualified for the GNAC Championships in those events and will be counted on to help Seattle University compete for points at the conference meet in May.
The Seattle University track and field team has one final chance to qualify and prepare for the GNAC Championships, as the Redhawks head to Bellingham, Wash., for the Western Washington Twilight Meet next Friday, April 27, beginning at 3 p.m. at Civic Stadium.
