ARCATA, Calif. - GNAC Player of the Year Jason Cascio (Gilbert, Ariz.) was voted First Team All-Far West Region by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, while John Fishbaugher (Redmond, Wash.) earned Second Team All-Region recognition, announced this week by the coaches association.
Cascio, the only GNAC player to earn a spot on the First Team, finished the season with a conference-high 16 goals and 33 total points. He was named GNAC Player of the Week three times during the season and had a six-match goal-scoring streak from Sept. 2 to Sept. 23. After the Division II Tournament, Cascio placed 21st in goals per game (0.84) and 33rd in points per game (1.74) in the final NCAA Division II statistical rankings for 2006.
Fishbaugher earned at least a point in all three NCAA Tournament matches to finish the year with five goals and six assists for 16 points. He scored the very first goal of the season against Chico State (Aug. 24) and followed that up with two assists against Sonoma State (Aug. 26) to earn the season's first GNAC Player of the Week award. He adds this honor to his previous awards of First Team All-GNAC and GNAC Academic All-Conference.
Both Cascio and Fishbaugher will be seniors on the 2007 Seattle University men's soccer team. They will be among the leaders of the squad, having the experience of two NCAA Far West Regional titles as well as the 2004 National Championship to fall back on.
