Alvarado Leads SU At GNAC Championships

LACEY, WASH. - Seattle University freshman Nicholas Alvarado continued his first collegiate running season with an impressive showing at the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships Oct. 21 in Lacey, Wash. Alvarado led all SU runners, finishing with a time of 26:05.19 for a 25th place finish behind GNAC individual champion David Kiplagat of Alaska-Anchorage, who won in a time of 24:28.27. Alvarado was followed by senior Andrew Lybarger (27:33.16) in 50th place, Nick Kirschner (27:41.81) finished 52nd, Nicholas Dols (28:07.04) came in 59th. Three freshmen, Chris Henry (28:49.80) was 65th, Andrew Wilburn (31:05.69) came in 72nd and Jeff Allen (31:04.66) finished 73rd. The men's team pulled out a seventh place GNAC finish overall with 213 points

Alvarado led all SU runners, finishing with a time of 26:05.19 for a 25th place finish behind GNAC individual champion David Kiplagat of Alaska-Anchorage, who won in a time of 24:28.27.

Alvarado was followed by senior Andrew Lybarger (27:33.16) in 50th place, Nick Kirschner (27:41.81) finished 52nd, Nicholas Dols (28:07.04) came in 59th. Three freshmen, Chris Henry (28:49.80) was 65th, Andrew Wilburn (31:05.69) came in 72nd and Jeff Allen (31:04.66) finished 73rd.

The men's team pulled out a seventh place GNAC finish overall with 213 points. Western Washington won the men's team title with 35 points, followed by Alaska-Anchorage with 53 points.

On the women's cross-country side, sophomore Rhiannon Cadelinia finished 41st with a time of 24:19.12. Jaime Clark followed in 55th place with a time of 24:48.56, Natalie Martinez was 57th with a time of 25:05.85 and Asia VanderBilt came in 61st (25:24.68).

Jennifer Innes finished 69th with a time of 26:50.13 to help SU to a ninth place finish with 252 points. Seattle Pacific won the women's title with 34 points, with Alaska-Anchorage second with 44 points.

The Seattle cross country teams will compete in the NCAA West Regionals on Saturday, Nov. 4 at Lake Oroville Afterbay in Chico, Calif.
