OREM, UTAH – After a long but successful season for Seattle U track and field that featured two new school records and an astonishing 71 personal records, the team finally heads to Utah Valley to compete in the Western Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships from May 9-11. The first events begin at 10:00 a.m. PT on Thursday morning.
“We are very excited for this group to compete at Utah Valley,” said Head Coach Kelly Sullivan. “The accumulation of nine months of training, competing and plain hard work all goes toward this single championship meet. I truly appreciate what our staff has done to prepare the team.”
Seattle U’s men are ranked 31st in the West Region, joining fellow WAC members Grand Canyon (no. 15), CSU Bakersfield (no. 19) and Cal Baptist (no. 32). Meanwhile, Utah Valley ranks seventh in the Mountain Region, Kansas City (no. 25) and Chicago State (no. 26) cracked the list in the Midwest Region, and UT Rio Grande Valley comes in at 32nd in the South Central Region. The WAC pre-championship poll gives Grand Canyon and Utah Valley an equal chance to win the conference title this weekend.
The Redhawk women claim sole possession of the 36th spot in the West Region, and are joined by Grand Canyon (no. 22), Cal Baptist (no. 30) and CSU Bakersfield (no. 33). UT Rio Grande Valley ranks 12th in the South Central Region, while New Mexico State and Utah Valley are ranked 12th and 20th, respectively, in the Mountain Region. Kansas City (no. 27) and Chicago State (no. 36) represent the WAC in the Midwest Region. The conference poll names Grand Canyon as the predicted winner of this week’s WAC Championships.
Live streaming will be available through the WAC’s Facebook page. ESPN+ broadcasts will begin at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday and 2:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Live results will be available through the WAC tournament central web page.
