After serving as a hitting coach in the minor leagues for the Chicago Cubs, Wes Long joined the Seattle U coaching staff for 2018-19 season as as an assistant coach. Now in his second season with the club, Long oversees the Redhawk offense and infielders, while assisting Greg Goetz with recruiting. Long also serves as the President/Director of Coaching for City Baseball Academy in Seattle.

"Wes comes to us from the Chicago Cubs organization where he coached Redhawk alum Dalton Hurd, who was drafted by the organization last spring,” Head Coach Donny Harrel said. “Wes will coach our outfielders as well as oversee our running game and small game under the direction of Coach Boyer. Wes brings great experience to our program after playing eight years in professional baseball at multiple positions. He has great vision and is truly about the development process of amateurs, which is what Seattle U baseball is all about. He will bring new ideas and innovation to our organization and help us to continually grow in our schemes.”

Long scouted for the Oakland A’s in 2016-17. He played collegiately at the University of Alabama Huntsville, then played professionally in the minor leagues from 2004-2011 (Oakland A’s, Florida Marlins, Winnipeg Goldeyes).

"My family and I are very excited and thankful to join the Seattle U baseball program,” said Long. “I’m looking forward to getting to know all players and going to work on the field.”
