Monica Van Winkle, RD

Monica Van Winkle, MS, RD is a registered dietitian, specializing in sports and wellness nutrition. She owns Nutrition in Action, PLLC, a private nutrition practice where she works with all athletes of all abilities, from recreational exercisers to seasoned professionals. Monica has provided services to Seattle University for several years; however, she has recently started on-campus nutritional counseling and planning open to all student-athletes. Monica is also the sports dietitian for the Seattle Mariners and Seattle Pacific University. Previously, Monica spent five seasons as the sports dietitian for the University of Washington Athletic Department.

In the past, Monica has worked as a clinical dietitian at Massachusetts General Hospital and the Northwest Kidney Centers. She has a background in providing medical nutrition therapy to patients with heart disease, diabetes, kidney disease, liver disease, HIV/AIDS, cancer, autoimmune illnesses, and neurological, psychiatric, metabolic, and gastrointestinal disorders. She has also developed and managed a residential nutrition program for eating disorders in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Monica earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of Washington and a Master of Science degree in nutrition from Boston University. She completed her dietetic internship at Saint Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Brighton, a teaching hospital of Tufts Medical School. Monica received additional training in sports nutrition, eating disorders, and adolescent health as a fellow in adolescent nutrition at Children’s Hospital Boston.

In her free time, you will likely find Monica eating high performance foods on a hiking trail, bike path, or while snowboarding down a mountain somewhere in the magnificent Pacific Northwest. Monica competed in cross-country and track in high-school.
