Eric Guerra became a member of the Seattle U athletics staff in 2006. In his role, Guerra is responsible for ensuring the holistic development, health and safety of all Seattle University student-athletes. In an effort to optimize the student-athlete experience, Guerra leads the Student-Athlete Services team, which includes: compliance, academic services, sports medicine, and strength and conditioning. Guerra directly focuses on compliance administration, enrollment planning and financial aid, and student-athlete conduct and well-being. Guerra serves as the NCAA designated Health Care Administrator.
Guerra, who previously led communications, facilities, and game operations, was responsible to establish and oversee KeyArena gameday operations beginning in 2009. He was also responsible for capital development from 2006 to 2017, which included more that 35 million in construction and renovation for Athletics.
Guerra provides administrative oversight and support to baseball and women's rowing. Guerra was responsible for implementing women's rowing in 2012.
From 2007 until 2012, Guerra managed the reclassification and certification processes that led to Seattle University's return to full NCAA Division I membership after a 32-year hiatus. Guerra is a member of the university's standing Gender Equity Committee, Public Safety Advisory Committee, the Athletics Advisory Board and the President's Committee on Sustainability.
Prior to his arrival in Seattle, Guerra served six years at the University of Notre Dame as the Coordinator of Student-Athlete Welfare and Development. During Guerra's tenure, Notre Dame was awarded the prestigious Program of Excellence Award for Student Welfare and Development from the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) in 2000 and was three times named to the National Consortium of Academics and Sports (NCAS) Community Service Honor Roll between 2003 and 2005.
On top of his work in student development, Guerra served as a member of the game management team and supported various sports' gameday operations. Additionally, he was responsible for sideline management for Notre Dame home football games. He also instructed on speed technique and power development at the annual Notre Dame Strength and Speed Camp.
Guerra earned a Bachelors of Science in Human Nutrition from New Mexico State University. Guerra served three years, from 1996 to 1999, in the Department of Athletics at NMSU in a duel role as video coordinator and assistant strength and conditioning coach. He was responsible for football and women's track and field, as well as assisting with men's basketball. A former collegiate sprinter, Guerra specialized in speed development and reconditioning design. Guerra completed his Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (C.S.C.S.) accreditation through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) in the spring of 1999.
A graduate of the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, Guerra holds a Masters of Education in Educational Leadership with an emphasis in Athletic Administration. He completed the NACDA Sports Management Institute (SMI) executive program in January 2004, which was conducted jointly at the University of Michigan and the University of Texas at Austin. Guerra completed the "Leading with Dignity" executive program through the Seattle University Albers School of Business and Economics in 2006. Guerra completed the year-long Arrupe Seminar at Seattle University in 2017.
Raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Guerra is married to the former Stephanie Reidy, who is a young adult fiction author and serves as an Instructor in the Seattle University College of Education. The couple resides with their two children, Anthony and Mariella, in Seattle.
