Known for her versatility, attention to detail and ability to contribute across all areas of the game, Washington native MacKenzie Whyte enters her second season with the Seattle University volleyball program after joining the Redhawks staff as an assistant coach ahead of the 2025 season.
A native of Snohomish, Whyte returned to the Pacific Northwest following a collegiate playing career at Towson, where she competed for two seasons and earned her undergraduate degree in communications. In her first season with Seattle U, Whyte helped the Redhawks navigate their inaugural season in the West Coast Conference while contributing to the development of a young and talented roster.
The 2025 campaign saw Seattle U open the season with five wins in its first six matches, including a 3-0 weekend at the Courtyard by Marriott Seattle U Invitational. Seattle U earned tournament MVP honors, while another right side was named to the all-tournament team. The Redhawks also secured their first-ever victories over Portland State and Jacksonville State to open the season.
Seattle U's transition to the WCC marked a significant milestone for the program, with the Redhawks hosting their first-ever home WCC match against Washington State at the Redhawk Center. The contest drew a program-record of 696 fans, highlighting the growing excitement surrounding Seattle U volleyball.
Throughout the season, Whyte helped support the development of a roster that featured six returning players, four transfers, and five incoming freshmen.
Whyte's coaching approach is grounded in the same versatility that defined her playing career. As a standout at Snohomish High School, she helped lead the program through a record-breaking season while earning three All-Area recognitions before continuing her career at Towson.
Whyte made her collegiate debut for the Tigers in 2023 and was tabbed a “swiss army knife” entering her senior season for her ability to step into whatever role the team needed. A middle blocker and outside hitter who also specialized in serving, she appeared in 41 sets across 20 matches, recording 12 kills, seven aces, 14 digs and 20.0 blocks. Her contributions helped Towson post a 24-6 record, finish third in the CAA regular season standings and advance to the quarterfinals of the CAA Tournament.
With a playing background rooted in versatility, adaptability and team-first leadership, Whyte brings a multifaceted perspective to the Seattle U coaching staff, helping develop student-athletes and contributing to the continued growth of Seattle U volleyball.
