Entering her first year with the Seattle University Track and Field program as a volunteer coach, Chinelo Ubaka will coach the throws program for both men and women.
In 2008, Ubaka graduated from the University of Florida, where she was a hammer and weight thrower for the women's track and field program. In her brief two-year career at Florida, Chinelo consistently scored points in both events at the indoor and outdoor Southeastern Conference championships. As a Division I athlete, Chinelo was a two-time qualifier for the NCAA Track and Field East Regional meet in the hammer and became a scholarship athlete after her first year.
Ubaka attended Lawton Chiles High School in Tallahassee, Fla., where she was a shot put and discus thrower. From her sophomore year through her senior year, she consistently qualified for the Florida High School Track and Field Championships in both the shot put and discus events. During her senior year, Ubaka became the 3A state champion in the women's discus event.
Ubaka earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in philosophy in 2008 from the University of Florida and currently is obtaining her Master's in Industrial/Organizational Psychology. Currently, she works at Puget Sound Vocational Services, Inc. in Lynnwood, Wash., as a Vocational Researcher, where she assists injured workers in becoming employable again. She resides in Seattle, Wash.
