Dwayne Canada begins his first season as an assistant coach within the men's basketball program.

Canada comes to Seattle University with an extensive resume as both a player and a coach. He spent five years as an assistant at Sacramento State, where he was responsible for recruiting, academic mentoring, and film exchange. He also assisted with duties involving travel, camps, and other day-to-day administrative functions.

Prior to Sacramento State, Canada served as the associate head coach at Wayne County Community College in Detroit for three seasons, helping the team qualify for the state and regional playoffs each year. Responsible for the team's recruiting, conditioning, and travel, Canada helped eight of his players reach Division I schools. He was also the cross country coach at Wayne County CC.

Canada was a scout for the Detroit Dogs of the American Basketball Association (ABA), helping head coach and basketball legend George Gervin lead the team to the ABA Championship in 2000. He has a bachelor's degree in marketing from the University of Phoenix and is currently in the MBA program at the same school.

After averaging 15 points per game in at Fairfax High School in Los Angeles, Canada played two seasons at Kings River Junior College, where he helped the Tigers to two conference titles and a tournament quarterfinal appearance in 1991 as part of a 25-10 record that season.

Canada and his wife, Christina, have two children. B'won (13) and Amara (9), and a nephew, Dwayne (15).
