Matt Sheeks joins the Seattle University cross country and track and field program as an assistant coach, helping head coach Trisha Steidl with the long distance program at SU.Running under Head Coach Rob Conner at the University of Portland, Sheeks was part of the cross country team which placed 9th at the NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships in 2005 and 18th in 2006. Sheeks was All-Region in the 5000 meter run in track in 2006 and in cross country in 2006. He was also the WCC Champion in cross country in 2005. His Personal Bests are 3:50 in the 1500m, 8:13 in the 3000m, 14:04.72 in the 5000m (which as it turns out is .09 seconds faster than Uli Steidl[apos]s PR) , and 29:14 in the 10,000m.Sheeks holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in accounting and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Portland. He was Academic All-American in 2006 in track and cross country, as well as in track in 2007.Sheeks will also be working with the Christian athlete ministry, Athletes in Action, at University of Washington this year, while continuing to run competitively and coaching at SU. Sheeks also enjoys bicycling immensely, once riding 2700 miles in a month on a bicycle tour to promote awareness and raise support for refugees in Sudan.
