2019: Made 19 pitching appearances with three starts … made his Redhawk debut on Feb. 17 at UNLV … earned his first career start against Omaha (2/24) … tossed 43.1 total innings with 33 strikeouts … longest outing was a 6.0-inning performance at UT Arlington (3/8), was also the first of three games he recorded five strikeouts … longest relief stint was 5.0 innings at Pacific (3/2) … picked up his first career save on Mar. 22 against Utah Valley, seven days later he notched a second save at CSU Bakersfield.
High School: A three-year letterman on Mission Viejo High School’s varsity baseball team … Mission Viejo qualified for the state tournament in all three years, making it to the quarterfinals in Jemal’s first year … named to the All-South Coast League Second Team in 2017 … was also a three-year member of the Mission Viejo’s varsity football team, which won the state championship in 2016 … named to the All-South Coast League Second Team for football in 2017 … Mission Viejo’s football team accumulated a record of 53-2 in Jemal’s three years … they made it to the state quarterfinals in 2017 and semifinals in 2018.
Personal: Jemal is majoring in business … his uncles, Ara Apkarian and Vania Apkarian, are professors at Northwestern University and UC Irvine, respectively.
