SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Seattle U women's soccer sophomore Jaelyn Byeman has been named the West Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office Monday.

Byeman made an impact on both ends of the field last week, helping the Redhawks secure a pair of shutout victories while recording her first collegiate goal. The Redmond, Wash., native played all 90 minutes in both a 4-0 win at Portland and a 2-0 victory at Saint Mary's. Against the Pilots, she headed home her first career goal in the 45th minute. She followed that performance by assisting Sophie Hanson's first collegiate goal in the win over the Gaels.

"Jaelyn is really hitting her stride at this point in the season," said Head Coach Julie Woodward. "Our back line has been very solid over the last several games, and it's exciting to see her contributions extend beyond her strong defensive play to making an impact offensively as well. I'm proud of her for earning Defensive Player of the Week."

Byeman has recorded a point in three of Seattle U's last four matches, helping the Redhawks post a +6 goal differential during that stretch. The weekly honor marks the first of her collegiate career and the first Defensive Player of the Week selection for a Seattle U defender since Kait Raffensperger earned the recognition in 2024.
